Defence Industry

New Delhi. Ultra Electronics TCS is pleased to announce that the US Navy (PMW/A 170) has awarded a 10-year, indefinite-delivery/ indefinite-quantity contract with a ceiling value of above $145 million and an initial order of $26.8 million.

The contract is for the development, production, spares and services for the Amphibious Tactical Communications System (ATCS). The ATCS will leverage core technologies from Ultra’s ORION radio/networking systems to meet the challenging requirements of shipboard maritime environments.

ATCS will provide full duplex communications that supports secure ship-to-shore, shore-to-ship, ship-to-ship C2 data and video communications between expeditionary strike groups (ESG) afloat and Marine Corps units ashore (using TRC-238 provided by Ultra TCS via US Army TRILOS Program of Record).

The ATCS project seeks to provide state-of-the-art, long-range wireless communications capability between the Navy’s L-Class (Landing Craft) Ships and Marine Corps MRC-142D shore systems operated by the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF). The ATCS will also support humanitarian and disaster response operations. The contract award includes amounts for Ultra product and services, with services to begin in 2020.

The ORION radio system is a software-defined, multi-channel, multi-band, MIMO radio platform that enables a Unified Heterogeneous Wireless Network (HETNET) capable of supporting a diversity of user requirements and resilient network operations in contested and congested environments.

Adoption of ORION by the US Navy will ensure interoperability with other deployed communications assets already in use across the Department of Defense, including the US Army, US Marine Corps and US Special Forces.

Iwan Jemczyk, President, Ultra TCS commented: “Ultra TCS is very proud to support the US Navy’s ATCS. This award demonstrates the strength of our innovative technology and Ultra’s commitment to developing and delivering state of the art communications systems.

We are delivering our fourth generation of radio systems for the tactical communications networks of the US Navy, US Army, United States Marine Corps, Special forces and Army Air Defense agencies and look forward to many more years of partnership with our lead customers.”
