Thales has entered a strategic teaming agreement with CGI and BAE Systems to provide an electronic warfare command and control (EWC2) capability to enhance the safety of the British Royal Navy’s fleet. The agreement will see the companies partner with the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) in support of the second phase of the Royal Navy’s maritime electronic warfare programme (MEWP).

MEWP is an MoD procurement programme primarily focused on providing the navy with advanced and modernised electronic warfare capabilities.

A variety of latest and modern equipment featuring advanced technology is set to be delivered in increments and deployed across the Royal Navy fleet as part of the initiative.

The partnering companies are expected to focus on addressing the Maritime Electronic Warfare System Integrated Capability (MEWSIC) Increment 1 after completing the upgrade of the navy’s electronic warfare sensor capability as part of Maritime Electronic Warfare Surface Ships Block 1.

“The agreement will see the companies partner with the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) in support of the second phase of the Royal Navy’s maritime electronic warfare programme (MEWP).”

In addition, the companies will collaborate with the MoD to deliver reliable and cost-effective critical components for electronic surveillance sensors, electronic warfare command and control systems, and electronic warfare operational support solutions.

Thales has agreed to provide the long-term electronic warfare fleet protection required by the Royal Navy under the deal, while CGI is set to supply electronic warfare operational support (EWOS) as a fully integrated electronic warfare capability.

Furthermore, BAE Systems’ Naval Ships Combat Systems team will deliver a cost-effective, open architecture command and control solution to ensure that the navy is able to plan, position and respond to both the current and future electronic warfare threat environment.
