Maritime Warfare Centre (Kochi) Celebrates Diamond Jubilee

Kochi. A seminar on “Maritime Law -Evolving Perspectives in Operations” was conducted on July 5, 2018 at the Southern Naval Command, Kochi on the occasion of Diamond Jubilee of the Maritime Warfare Centre (Kochi), the premier warfare training centre of the Indian Navy. Vice Admiral AR Karve, PVSM, AVSM, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) Southern Naval Command (SNC) was the Chief Guest for the event and VJ Mathew, Senior Advocate, Chairman Kerala Maritime Board, the Guest of Honour.

A First Day Cover and commemorative stamp was released by the chief guest during the inaugural session along with NR Giri, Senior Superintendent of Posts, from the Indian Postal Department. Subsequently, he also released the compendium of the seminar Papers. During the seminar eight speakers presented their papers on the broad themes of India’s strategic Maritime Environment and the relevance of International Maritime Law.

The seminar was attended by many officers (including retired senior officers), and men from all Naval Commands as well as representatives from all maritime agencies of the country. Some eminent representatives of the Judiciary were also the part of the audience. The seminar saw active participation of the National Maritime Foundation and speakers from across the maritime field.

The Maritime Warfare Centre, Kochi is one of the premier institutions of the Indian Navy for Maritime Warfare and Tactics which is headed by Commodore NAJ Joseph,VSM. The Centre’s main function is to train officers of Indian and Friendly Foreign Navies in the Art of Warfighting.
