Guwahati. Inaccessible population due to connectivity problem, shortage of medical personnel and lack of access to medical supplies are some of the major challenges Northeast India is facing in present time.

Indian Institute of Drones – Guwahati in association with Electronics Sector Skill Council of India inaugurated a first-of-its-kind Centre for – drone pilot training and service & maintenance of drones in Guwahati, Assam.

Dignitaries from Assam Police, Indian Army (MES), Oil India Limited, Flood and River Erosion Management Agency, Assam Science & Technology – Environment, Assam Energy Development Agency Council, Assam Forest Department, District Disaster Management Authority, National Highway Infra Development Corp of India Limited, Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, NeDFi, Assam PWD, North Eastern Space Application Center, NDRF, ASDM, STPI, DY365, GMDA and NEEPCO were present at the Inaugural event.

Northeast India is very vulnerable to the multiplicity of natural disasters. The population & habitation being sparsely located and due to connectivity problem, reaching out to the population in the remote areas especially in times of emergencies and delivery of medical supplies and services to these areas are highly challenging.

Drone Technology will be crucial for carrying and transporting these life saving vaccines, blood in times where blood transfusion is required. There needs to be a drone ecosystem in place for this to happen where manufacturing, drone pilot training and service & maintenance are available for the local population to adapt and implement.

Indian Institute of Drones – Guwahati will be instrumental in imparting skilled drone pilot training and knowledge on drone technology and its application to create a drone ecosystem in Northeast India.
