New Delhi: Days after clearance from the Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a Defence Public Sector Understanding (DPSU) is exploring export opportunities for Defence Research Development Organisation-developed (DRDO-developed) Akash Missile System with nine countries from Southeast Asia and Africa have evinced interest in the acquisition of system, official sources said.

Earlier, the Union Cabinet approved the export of Akash Missile System aiming to achieve the target of US$5 billion of defence export and improve strategic relations with countries.

“Besides Akash, there is interest coming in other major platforms like Coastal Surveillance System, Radars and Air platforms. To provide faster approvals for export of such platforms, a Committee comprising of Defence Minister, External Affairs Minister and National Security Advisor has been created,” said a press statement by the Ministry of Defence.
